Fr. Felix S. Ferrer SVD
June 17, 1955 – February 2, 2022
Fr. Felix, or Fr. Lex as he was fondly called, was born in Parang, Marikina, Rizal. His parents’ roots were in Binmaley and Malasiqui, Pangasinan. After finishing his elementary schooling at the Marist School in Marikina, he entered Christ the King Seminary in Quezon City in 1968. Even at that time his formators and teachers identified him as a frail boy with a big IQ. He was ordained to the priesthood in 1981 and for the first year of his priesthood he was assigned in Tagaytay as the Prefect for Apostolate and acting Registrar of the School of Theology.
He asked for, and received an assignment to be a missionary in Papua New Guinea in 1983. In 1986 he was sent to Rome where he obtained a Licentiate degree in Fundamental Theology at the Pontifical Gregorian University. Returning to Tagaytay in 1988, he taught Fundamental Theology and also served as Prefect for the First Year theologians.
In 1992 he returned to Rome to pursue his Doctorate in Sacred Theology and finished in 1998. From 1998 on he was in Tagaytay teaching Dogma and Fundamental Theology. In all those years he held different positions aside from being a Professor: Director of Library, Assistant Prefect, Dean of Studies, Editor of the DIWA Publication, Director of Research and Publications, House Councilor, and Regency Program Director.
In October 2020 he suffered a massive stroke which effectively stopped his various activities and necessitated his transfer to the Villa Cristo Rey in Quezon City for rehabilitation and recuperation. However, he suffered from other complications which deteriorated further his condition until he breathed his last at 11:59 PM of February 2, 2022.
With his passing, the SVD lost a great mind, an amicable confrere, and a missionary who strived to do his best in the noble task of the formation of the SVD future missionaries. But we also gained another intercessor. Deo Gracias!
May he rest in God’s peace!
