Los Baños, Laguna – September 8, 2025 — The Parish Shrine of St. Thérèse of the Child Jesus joined the global Society of the Divine Word (SVD) in celebrating its 150th Jubilee, coinciding with the Feast of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
The event was marked by a Eucharistic Celebration attended by Fr. Sonny de Rivera, celebrant and homilist, Fr. Philip Atienza, the parish priest, Fr. Abe Paz, Fr. Romy Castro, and Fr. Jong Teman, seminarians, and members of the parish community.
Before the Mass, Fr. Paz, Director of Verbum House, presented a brief overview of the SVD's 150-year journey, highlighting its global mission and legacy through a short talk and video clips that stirred gratitude and pride in the congregation.
The homilist reflected on the SVD's long-standing presence in Los Baños, recalling missionaries like Fr. Barbieto, whose compassionate and straightforward ministry left lasting marks on families and individuals.
Today, the SVD mission in Los Baños continues through the vibrant presence of the Divine Word priests and students. Their presence is more than a residence; it is a sign that God is still calling, still forming, still sending.
Throughout the years, the people of Los Baños have not simply been recipients of the mission—they have been active participants in it. Families opened their homes, offered prayers, gave support, and treated the missionaries not as guests but as brothers and sons. The homilist acknowledged this deeply: “For every encounter, for every act of kindness, every motivation carried from that missionary flame and acted upon, you have become part of this 150-year history.”
Following the Mass, the community gathered for a shared meal—a true family celebration. Fr. Romy and Fr. Jong offered short messages of thanks and encouragement to the friends and parishioners present.
Two SVD seminarians added a special touch with musical performances. One song, sung in French, drew a delighted "wow" from the audience—an unexpected moment that reflected the missionary spirit's reach across cultures and languages.
The meal was filled with reminiscing, laughter, and stories, strengthening bonds and stirring heartfelt memories of the past. For many, it was a reminder that after all these years, we remain one in spirit—one mission family.
