150 Years of the SVD
(Sesquicentennial celebration)
This year 2025 marks the 150th anniversary of the foundation of the SVD since St. Arnold Janssen started it on September 8, 1875 in Steyl, Holland.
The SVD Philippines joins the whole SVD world in celebrating this milestone. From a handful of followers of St. Arnold, the SVD now counts more than 6000 members working in 79 countries. It is one of the fastest growing congregation in the world.
The SVD started in the Philippines in 1909 when two missionaries arrived in Cagutongan, Abra. Now in 2025, 116 years later, there are more than 400 Filipino priests and brothers working in the Philippines and in Asia, Africa, Europe, and the Americas.
